Celebrated in India as National Mathematics Day, in honour of legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan & his outstanding contributions in this field. With no formal training in the subject, during his short life span - 22 Dec 1887 to 26 Apr 1920 -  he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, including solutions to mathematical problems then considered unsolvable.
