Total number of MPs in Italy's parliament, lower house and senate combined. In contrast, India, the world's largest democracy has 793 members in all. Nearly 70% of voters in a referendum favoured reducing the size to 600 by 2023. The Star Movement, part of the governing coalition, reckons the reduction will save $1.2 billion over the course of the decade.
