merger talks between two Canadian fertiliser companies - shares rose in both Potash Corp, based in Saskatchewan, and in Agrium, a slightly larger competitor with headquarters in Calgary. Low crop prices have put pressure on the fertiliser industry to consolidate. Last year Potash Corp failed to buy a German rival, K+S.
