Dating of an inscription in Sanskrit and Brahmi characters that was discovered near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. According to the Epigraphy Branch of the Archaeological Survey of India the inscription records the construction of a temple dedicated to 'Saptamatrikas' or the seven mother goddesses. The temple and inscription were issued by a Satavahana king Vijaya. It is also the earliest Sanskrit inscription to have been discovered in South India as on date.
