Mettur Dam. At 89.43% of its full capacity of 2,646,790 million litres, compared to 13.87% at the same time last year. Current year inflow: 8,218 cusecs. Current year outflow: 12,003 cusecs. Located across the Cauvery, the dam is one of the largest in India and the largest in Tamil Nadu. The dam receives inflows from its own catchment area, Kabini Dam and Krishna Raja Sagara Dams located in Karnataka. It provides irrigation and drinking water facilities for more than 12 districts of the state.

Bhavanisagar Dam. At 64.26% of its full capacity of 928,798 million litres, compared to 20.28% at the same time last year. Current year inflow: 5,699 cusecs. Current year outflow: 984 cusecs. Bhavanisagar dam is constructed on the Bhavani River. The dam receives water from two main catchment areas in the Western Ghats. The dam is fed by both Southwest and Northeast monsoons. The dam feeds water into 3 canals, Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) Canal, Kalingarayan Canal and Thadapalli-Arakankottai Canal. Water from the LBP canal irrigates around 1,03,500 acres in Erode, Tiruppur and Karur districts. The Kalingarayan canal irrigates around 15,743 acres and the Thadapalli-Arakankottai irrigates around 24,504 acres.

Periyar Dam. At 49.75% of its full capacity of 299,311 million litres, compared to 21.02% at the same time last year. Current year inflow: 2,506 cusecs. Current year outflow: 1,822 cusecs. The dam situated at the confluence of the Mullayar and Periyar rivers is located entirely in Kerala but operated by the Tamil Nadu government for its irrigation and power generation needs.

Vaigai Dam. At 67.39% of its full capacity of 172,479 million litres, compared to 16.94% at the same time last year. Current year inflow: 1,565 cusecs. Current year outflow: 969 cusecs. Built across the River Vaigai near Andipatti, the dam is the life line of farmers in Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts. It also provides drinking water for major cities such as Theni, Madurai and Ramanathapuram.
