    Coal based generation capacity shut down or converted across India in fiscal year 2019-20. In all 21 units in 10 plants were shut down. During the same period, 6,765 MW of new capacity has been added.

    4 units, 50 MW capacity each, have been retired from the Korba II Thermal Power Plant located in Chhattisgarh in Aug 2019.
  • 500 MW
    Unit 5 of Trombay Thermal Power Station, located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been retired from in Sep 2019.
  • 60 MW
    2 units, 30 MW capacity each - Unit 15 and Unit 16 - have been retired from the Sabarmati Station located in Gujarat in Sep 2019.
  • 135 MW
    2 units, 67.5 MW capacity each - Unit 1 and Unit 2 - have been retired from the Rajghat Thermal Power Station located in New Delhi in Sep 2019.
  • 420 MW
    2 units, 210 MW capacity each - Unit 4 and Unit 5 - have been retired from the Parli Thermal Power Station located in Maharashtra in Jan 2020.
  • 110 MW
    Unit 6 of the Durgapur Thermal Power Station located in West Bengal has been retired in Jan 2020.
  • 420 MW
    5 units, Unit-1,2,4,5 & 7 (3x60 + 2x120 = 420 MW) - have been retired from the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station located in Telangana in Mar 2020.
  • 130 MW
    Unit 3 DVC's Chandrapura Thermal Power Station retired from central sector of Eastern Region in Mar 2020.
  • 150 MW
    5 units, Unit-1 & 9 (50+100 = 150 MW) - have been retired from the Neyveli Thermal Power Station from central sector of Southern Region in Mar 2020.
  • 210 MW
    Unit 5 (210 MW) has been retired from the Panipat Thermal Power Station located in Haryana in Mar 2020.
