Coal based generation capacity commissioned across India in fiscal year 2019-20. In all 11 units in 10 plants were commissioned. During the same period, 2,335 MW of capacity was retired.

Unit 2 of BLA Industry's Gadarwara Power Plant in Niwari, Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh commissioned in Jun 2019. The power station is a captive facility serving the company's coal mine.

Unit 3 of IB Valley Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to state sector of Odisha in Jul 2019.

Unit 1 of Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to central sector of Eastern states in Jul 2019.

Unit 4 of IB Valley Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to state sector of Odisha in Aug 2019.

Unit 5 of Tanda Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to central sector of Northern Region in Sep 2019.

Unit 1 of Khargone Super Thermal Power Plant commissioned and added to central sector of Western Region in Sep 2019.

Unit 8 of Wanakbori Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to state sector of Gujarat in Oct 2019.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NCL) commissioned Unit 1 of the Neyveli New Thermal Power Plant on 19 December 2019 at 11.30 P.M. The plant is located in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu and will source lignite from NLC's own lignite mines. The main plant packages are supplied and erected by BHEL.

NTPC announces the commissioning of Unit 1 of its Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project in Odisha on 31 Dec 2019.

Unit 7 of Suratgarh Thermal Power Station commissioned and added to the state of Rajasthan in the month of Mar 2020.

Unit 2 of NTPC's Khargone Super Thermal Power Plant commissioned and added to central sector of Western Region states as per their allocation in the month of Mar 2020.
