The municipal-run utility of the eastern town of Frankfurt an der Oder, Brandenburg, will replace its 49 MW lignite-fired coal plant by 2022 with a production facility powered by natural gas. “The municipal utilities are sending a signal” that brown coal is not sustainable, said Annalena Baerbock, chairwoman of Germany’s Green Party.
