Unit I of phase I of the project, comprising a capacity of 300 MW, began commercial operation on October 6, 2017, while unit II of phase I, which consists of another 300 MW, became operational on April 1, 2018. Visa Power Limited's (2x600 MW) Deveri Thermal Power Plant in Deveri and Dumarpali villages, Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh has an outstanding debt of Rs. 1,481 crore. Construction of unit 1 is stalled due to financial constraints. The project was allotted 99.12 million tonne (mt) of coal from the Fatehpur East coal block in Chhattisgarh. However, the project ran into rough weather due to cancellation of the coal block, the main resource based on which the thermal power project was conceived.

Stage -I of MTPS having two unit of 110 MW is under operation while Stage-II having capacity of 2X195 MW is at advance stage of completion.
